I love this piece because I served my mission in Germany. To tell you why this is so, let me ask a question. What is the "topic" for this piece? Simplifying our life, gratitude, and loving one another all come to mind. Now let me tell you about the Book of Mormon in German. The edition I used in, ahem, the mid 70's rendered the word "repent" as "do penance." Sometime in the 80's, the Book of Mormon was retranslated, and everywhere the previous version said "do penance" it now used a word meaning "turn around." What a gentle and accurate picture of repentance: turning around or turning away from sin.

So, when I sing the words "to turn, turn will be our delight until by turning we come 'round right," smiling through my tears of joy, I hear a tender sermon on the lifelong process of repentance that brings us closer to our loving Heavenly Father.
